Light Automated Transport System for Medical Center

SLATS (SALMOIRAGHI LIGHT AUTOMATED TRANSPORT SYSTEM) FOR MEDICAL CENTER

AUTOMATED FUNCTIONS:
The Salmoiraghi Light Automatic Transport System (SLATS) installed in the new Mestre (province of Venice) hospital is designed to safely, rapidly and flexibly transport light loads among the following areas:

  • patient wards
  • operation theaters
  • test laboratories
  • specialized departments: main pharmacy, intensive care, day hospital, radiology, endoscopy, etc

MAIN TECHNICAL FEATURES:

  • The system serves 9 floors and 28 stations (in addition to a maintenance station). Each station is provided with an operator interface PC with user-friendly video pages, as well as visual and acoustic indicators.
  • Material transport is performed by electrically powered “Shuttle” vehicles, travelling on an electrified aluminium monorail system with horizontal and vertical sections; vehicle addressing to the required branches is achieved by means of powered rail switches. In the sloped sections, the Shuttles obtain the necessary traction by means of a continuous toothed rack
    Total circuit length is over 1500 meters.
  • Each Shuttle is equipped with a swiveling container carrying a payload of max. 10 kg in a volume of approximately 25 liters. The Shuttles travel along the circuit with an average speed of 0,4 meters/second, and slow down to a safe speed in the entry and exit sections of the stations in order to guarantee operator safety.
  • Shuttle traffic and mission coordination tasks are managed by a Supervision server communicating with the various utilities via Wi-Fi network utilizing Access Points and communication cards installed on board of the vehicles and/or in control boxes located in the field. The Supervisor system optimizes the work missions according to the availability of the destination stations, graphically displays the current Shuttle traffic, station and rail switch status, provides a remote diagnostic interface, and displays statistic/history data pages.
